MATTED “BIN” PAINTING ENTRY FORM

ENTRY FEE: Members who pay the entry fee, and enter at least one (1) framed painting, may submit up to 10 matted, original paintings for placement and sale in the bins at the show.
PRESENTATION: All bin paintings must be matted neatly and cleanly. They must be backed with “foam-core” (no poster board or cardboard.) Paintings must be displayed in a commercial plastic/cellophane sleeve. No Kitchen wrap will be accepted. (See EXHIBITION RULES)
SALE PRICE: Minimum sale price, $75.00
COMMISSION FEE: 25% will be deducted from the sale price and will go to the CVWS for show expenses.
JUDGING: No Bin paintings will be judged.
LABELS: Must be clean and legible. Attach Labels to the FRONT, UPPER, LEFT OUTSIDE, CORNER of each painting. Please make your own labels using the example below.

PROSPECTUS
PURPOSE AND ELIGIBILITY: To provide an exhibition opportunity for all current CVWS members in good standing (annual Dues paid prior to December 31 of the current fiscal year.)
Works previously exhibited in any CVWS judged competition will NOT be accepted for judging in the Annual Membership judged competition. (This does not include Painter of the Month.) Judged competitions include:
Annual Membership Show
Small Image Show
Plein Air Show
Painter of the Year

EXHIBITION RULES: Art work display requirements are listed in your CVWS EXHIBITION RULES. Please read them carefully. The “Take-In” staff will turn away or disqualify your work if it does not comply with ALL the CVWS EXHIBITION RULES.

AWARDS: Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th place, four (4) Honorable Mention awards, four (4) Merit awards, five (5) Juror Awards, One (1) People’s Choice award, several Merchant/Vendor awards.

ENTRY FEE: $35 for one or two (2) framed paintings and up to ten (10) bin paintings.

SALES: All paintings must be for sale. Sale prices may not be changed after the painting is entered. The CVWS will handle all sales and will charge the artist a 25% commission.

LIABILITY: By submitting your entry forms you are releasing the CVWS from all liability for loss or damage to any art work submitted. WE RECOMMEND THAT ALL ARTISTS INSURE THEIR OWN WORK.

DELIVERY: Deliver art work to the Palm Desert Community Center, 43-900 San Pablo, Palm Desert on Friday, March 5, 2010 between 10:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. Bring paintings to the North side entrance of the building. Make sure all labels are securely attached and artist’s signature is covered with tape.

PICK UP: Sunday, March 7, 2010. 5 pm. NO ART WORK WIL BE RELEASED BEFORE 5:00 PM. Line up to claim your work OUTSIDE the north entrance to the building. Artists picking up their work will not be allowed on the exhibit floor until the show is officially closed at 5 pm on Sunday, March 7. Artists that do not pick up their paintings will be charged a $5.00 handling fee.

POTLUCK DINNER AND AWARDS: The Potluck Dinner and Awards will be held beginning at 5:30PM March 7, 2010, in the exhibit hall. Potluck items should be delivered to the North side entrance to the building (i.e. the kitchen entrance). You WILL NOT be allowed in the exhibit room until AFTER 5:00 pm!

Prospectus

Purpose & Eligibility: To provide an exhibition opportunity for CVWS members. Members in good standing are eligible to show. A current one page autobiography is required. Exhibiting member are expected to volunteer a minimum of 2 1/2 hours, at either location.

Painting Check-In: Saturday, October 31, 10:00 AM- 1:00PM. One or two framed paintings and up to five bin paintings. Be sure to check CVWS Exhibition Rules regarding Small Image Show. Due at check in: Small Image Entry Form 2009, $10.00 entry fee, and autobiography.

Commissions: CVWS will handle all sales and will charge a commission of 25% of the sales price (not including sales tax).

Jim Salchak Demonstrator for April 13th Meeting

John J. "Jim" Salchak has been capitivated by the medium of watercolor for over thirty years. His paintings have been shown in numerous local and national juried exhibitions, including the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and watercolor West. Jim is a signature member and past president of both the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. He has also achieved signature membership in Nevada and San Diego Watercolor Societies. His paintings have been published in the Best of Watercolor, People in Watercolor and Watercolor Expressions. A feature article on his work appeared in the Summer 2003 issue of Watercolor magazine and in the Fall of 2006 issue of American Artist's Watercolor Highlights. He has served as a juror for both national and local art exhibitions.

PROCESS: I enjoyed jurying this show, it was an honor and pleasure. It was refreshing to see a wide variety of ideas and techniques. My first thought was to walk thru and get an overall feeling of what is presented. I look for strong ideas and competent use of technique. I base a lot of my jurying on composition, harmonious use of color, and use of the medium.

Tom Lynch Demonstrator for March 9th Meeting


Tom Lynch has been referred to as one of the nation’s premier water-colorists. He has written seven books and hosted several award-winning PBS Art Series. He is a natural teacher, speaking openly and candidly. His paintings have that same intensity, expression and direct appeal. His unique style is truly an adventure in color, contrast and light.

Tom feels it’s the artist’s job to bring the viewer the best of what can be found in a landscape along with a little creativity or exaggeration.

He likes to provoke viewers to “have something to think about, not
just something to see.”Especially for our meeting, Tom will demonstrate how to rescue some of our members’ “failures.” The meeting may run
a little longer than 9PM, but will be well worth it. Because of Tom’s popularity and limited space, no guests are allowed. This is a MEMBERS ONLY meeting.
